Ninebark 'Red Baron'

Ninebark 'Red Baron' (Physocarpus opulifolius)

This cultivar is a more compact and 'tidier' alternative to the well-known cultivar 'Diabolo', which makes it ideal for gardens of any size.

Appearance and features:

• Leaves: Narrow, three-lobed, with clearly defined veins. As they unfurl they have a coppery-bronze tint, which in summer turns dark red or rich purple.
• Crown: The shrub has an upright, dense form, which with age becomes spreading and hemispherical.
• Dimensions: It reaches 1.5–2 m in height and up to 1.5 m in diameter.
• Flowering: In June numerous inflorescences of small white-and-pink flowers appear, which create a bright contrast against the dark foliage.
• Decorative bark: In mature plants the bark on the old shoots peels off beautifully in strips, which adds texture to the garden even in winter.
