Ninebark 'Diable D'Or' (Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diable D'Or')
- Key characteristics and features of the cultivar:
- A unique play of colour: The cultivar's main feature is its blazing young foliage. In spring, as it opens, it has a bright copper-orange or amber tone, which gradually darkens over time into a deep, rich purple.
- Shrub habit: A vigorous, dense shrub with a spreading, rounded crown and gracefully drooping branches. Reaches 2.0-2.5 m in height and up to 2 m in width.
- Contrasting flowering: In early summer (June) it flowers with numerous corymb-shaped clusters of creamy white with a pink blush, which look magnificent against the dark foliage.
- Hardiness and care: An exceptionally undemanding shrub. Fully frost-hardy for Ukraine, easily tolerates urban pollution and brief drought, and is practically disease-free.
- Light requirements: For the shrub to show the full range of its copper-purple hues, it needs to be planted in full sun.
- Landscape use: Thanks to its large size and striking appearance, it's perfect for tall hedges, a backdrop for perennials, large shrub mixed borders, and stand-alone accents.
