Ninebark 'Carmel'

Ninebark 'Carmel' is a modern, compact cultivar that attracts attention with the crown's unique colour change, from caramel-copper spring tones to a deep chocolate-purple colour in autumn.

Ninebark 'Carmel' (Physocarpus opulifolius 'Carmel')

1. Unique colouring: In spring and early summer the young foliage impresses with warm caramel-bronze and amber-copper tones. Closer to autumn the colour transforms into a deep, noble chocolate-purple.
2. Compact form: Forms a dense, neat shrub with upright shoots 1.5-1.8 m tall and up to 1.5 m wide. Holds its shape beautifully, without falling apart with age.
3. Flowering and fruit: In June it becomes abundantly covered in contrasting creamy-white or soft pink clusters, which turn into decorative reddish seed pods in autumn.
4. Hardiness and resilience: A maximally winter-hardy cultivar (down to -34°C). Tolerates drought, urban pollution, dust and regular pruning beautifully, and is barely affected by disease.
5. Planting requirements: Needs full sun to keep its rich colour (it turns green in shade), and well-drained soil with no prolonged waterlogging.
6. Landscape use: An ideal choice for dense, bright hedges, contrasting groups with conifers and light-green shrubs, and as a colour accent.
