Ninebark 'Little Devil' (Physocarpus opulifolius 'Little Devil') is one of the most popular dwarf cultivars, prized for its refined texture, undemanding nature and rich colour.
Ninebark 'Little Devil' (Physocarpus opulifolius 'Little Devil')
- Key characteristics and features of the cultivar:
- Compact and refined: A true dwarf among ninebarks. Forms a dense, upright shrub only 0.8-1.2 m tall and wide. Has a fine, small-textured foliage, so it looks very neat.
- Stable colour: The foliage is narrow, a deep dark-burgundy or purple-crimson colour that holds beautifully all season long and doesn't burn out in the sun.
- Striking flowering: In June it becomes covered in numerous small, soft pink or white clusters that contrast vividly with the dark crown.
- Conditions and hardiness: Completely frost-hardy, resilient to urban conditions, disease and pests. Best planted in sun, since the foliage turns green in shade.
- Easy care: Grows quickly, but thanks to its genetic dwarfism needs almost no pruning to keep its shape. The only thing it can't tolerate is prolonged waterlogging.
- Landscape use: An ideal choice for low borders, small gardens, rockeries, mass plantings, and also for growing in garden containers and planters.
