Description✦
Japanese Spiraea 'Gold Mound' is a true "golden mound". The cultivar is prized for the stable bright yellow colour of its foliage, which does not fade in the sun.
Highlights and conditions:
- Appearance: A dwarf bush (40–60 cm) with an ideal, very dense, hemispherical crown.
- Colour: The foliage holds a rich lemon-yellow colour throughout the summer. In spring it is slightly orange, and in autumn it turns golden.
- Flowering: In June–July small delicate pink inflorescences appear, creating a soft contrast with the yellow background.
- Light: Full sun only. In shade the foliage quickly turns light green or green.
- Soil: Undemanding, but feels best on drained, moderately moist soils.
- Care: Requires spring pruning (down to 10–15 cm from the ground) to maintain a compact shape and the brightness of the new foliage.
