Description

Japanese Barberry 'Orange Pillar' is one of the brightest columnar cultivars, prized for its unique upright form and the fiery colouring of its foliage.

Main characteristics:

  • Crown shape: Narrow, dense, upright. The shoots grow strictly upwards, which allows the plant to be planted even in the narrowest spots of the garden.
  • Leaf colour: Young shoots and leaves have a bright orange-red colour. In summer the foliage becomes more saturated, reddish-brick, and in autumn it 'bursts into flame' with bright fiery-red and golden hues.
  • Dimensions: A mature plant reaches 1.2–1.5 m in height and only 0.4–0.6 m in width.
  • Flowering: In May small yellow flowers open, which later turn into glossy red berries that decorate the bush in winter.
