Korean Barberry

Korean Barberry (Berberis koreana)

A vigorous deciduous shrub with large decorative foliage and bright fruit.

• Appearance: A tall, spreading shrub up to 2 m high. The foliage is much larger than that of ordinary barberries (up to 7 cm), dark green in summer, and in autumn it becomes flaming purple or orange.
• Flowering and fruit: It flowers with yellow hanging clusters with a pleasant fragrance. The fruit are bright red egg-shaped berries that hold on the branches for a very long time, adorning the garden in winter.
• Conditions: Sun or light partial shade. Completely undemanding as to soil, very drought-tolerant and wind-resistant.
• Care: The most frost-resistant among barberries. It has long thorns (up to 2 cm), making it ideal for creating impenetrable hedges. It tolerates clipping excellently.
