Description

Japanese Barberry 'Marulka' (Berberis thunbergii)

'Marulka' — a dwarf deciduous shrub that stands out for its exceptionally dense, almost perfectly globe-shaped crown, resembling a "coral reef" or a little cushion.

Main characteristics:

  • Leaf colour: A true chameleon! In spring and summer the foliage has a pleasant lemon-yellow or lime-green colour with an elegant red margin. In autumn the bush "blazes" with incredible orange-red and fiery shades.
  • Size: A very compact cultivar. The height of an adult plant usually does not exceed 30–50 cm, and the width — up to 60 cm.
  • Growth: It grows slowly, which allows it to keep its tidy shape for years without the gardener's intervention.
  • Light: It does best in sunny spots.
  • Frost resistance: High. The cultivar is adapted to the Ukrainian climate and overwinters beautifully without cover.
