Description✦
Japanese Spiraea 'Froebelii' is a time-tested cultivar prized for its large inflorescences and striking change of foliage colour.
Highlights and conditions:
- Appearance: A dense medium-sized bush (80–120 cm). The crown is spreading but holds a neat form.
- Colour: In spring the young foliage is dark purple, in summer it becomes dark green, and in autumn it takes on a rich red-violet tint.
- Flowering: In July–August it becomes covered with large (up to 10 cm) crimson-pink corymbs. One of the most powerful flowerings among spiraeas.
- Light: Only sun (for bright foliage and lush flowers).
- Soil: Undemanding, but prefers moderately moist and nutritious soils.
- Care: Needs spring pruning. This ensures bush density and the largest possible inflorescences.
