Japanese Barberry 'Lutin Rouge'

(Berberis thunbergii 'Lutin Rouge')

'Lutin Rouge' — a dwarf cultivar of French breeding that impresses with its exceptionally dense crown and rich coral-red leaf colour throughout the season.

Growing conditions and care:

• Light: Requires full sun. It is precisely in open sunny spots that the leaf colour will be at its most fiery.
• Soil: Undemanding, but grows best on moderately moist, well-drained soils. It does not tolerate waterlogging.
• Drought tolerance: High. Once established, it easily withstands hot periods.
• Frost resistance: Excellent (zone 5). It overwinters perfectly in Ukrainian conditions, withstanding frosts down to -28°C.
• Pruning: Requires only sanitary pruning (removing damaged branches in spring). Thanks to its compactness, it holds its perfect shape on its own.
