Eastern Arborvitae 'Smaragd' (Smaragd)

The most popular cultivar in the world, prized for its perfect conical shape and its ability to keep a bright colour even in winter.

Main characteristics:

• Crown shape: Slender, dense, pyramidal; the branchlets grow vertically and very densely.
• Colour: Richly green throughout the whole year. Unlike other cultivars, it does not turn brown in winter.
• Dimensions: At 10 years of age the height is 2.5 m, the width up to 1 m. A mature plant reaches 5–6 m.
• Growth: Moderate, adding about 20–25 cm per year.
• Conditions: It needs sunny or partially shaded spots and moist, fertile soil.
• Frost resistance: Very high (down to -34°C); it overwinters wonderfully throughout Ukraine.
