Japanese Barberry 'Maria'

This cultivar is considered one of the best yellow-leaved barberries thanks to its unique upright form and resistance to sun.

Detailed characteristics:

• Crown and growth: Has a distinct columnar form. The shoots grow vertically upwards; they are sturdy and densely covered with foliage. Reaches 1.2–1.5 m in height.
• Foliage: Large, almost rounded. In summer it is bright yellow with a thin red edging along the margins.
• Colouring: At the end of the season the shrub becomes incredibly ornamental, changing colour to a rich orange-red.
• Flowers and fruit: Flowers with small yellow flowers in May. In autumn large bright red berries appear, which adorn the shrub even after the foliage has fallen.
• Resilience: The cultivar is notable for the fact that its foliage does not scorch in the sun. Fully frost-hardy for the whole of Ukraine.
