Japanese Red Pine 'Rainbow'

Japanese Red Pine 'Rainbow' (Pinus densiflora 'Rainbow') — a unique cultivar that got its name ("Rainbow") thanks to the unusual multicoloured colouring of its foliage.

Key characteristics

• Colour: Each green needle has transverse bright yellow stripes. This creates an effect of "shimmering" or a golden glow of the crown, especially in sunlight.
• Crown shape: At a young age it is globe-shaped or slightly spreading; with age it becomes broadly pyramidal or takes on the irregular, picturesque form characteristic of Japanese pines.
• Growth rate: Belongs to the slow-growing or medium-growing cultivars. The annual growth is approximately 10–15 cm. By 10 years the height usually reaches 1.2–1.5 m.
