Description

English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

An evergreen subshrub associated with Provence and tranquillity.

  • Flowers: Small, gathered into spike-like inflorescences of violet, blue or lavender colours. They have a strong, calming aroma.
  • Foliage: Narrow, silvery-green, keeps its colour even in winter.
  • Flowering: July–August. If the first flowers are cut, it may flower again in autumn.
  • Dimensions: Depending on the cultivar (for example, 'Munstead' or 'Hidcote'), the height and width are 30–60 cm.
  • Conditions: Needs maximum sun and poor, well-drained sandy soils. Does not tolerate waterlogging or acidic soils.
  • Frost resistance: High. In Ukraine it overwinters without cover (except for young plants in the first year).
